FILIP THORÉN JOINS RX1 FIELD FOR FIA RALLYCROSS WORLD CUP IN JAKARTA

Swedish driver Filip Thorén is the latest name confirmed for the FIA Rallycross World Cup, joining the RX1 field for the landmark event in Jakarta, Indonesia, on 4-6 December.

Thorén will head to the Indonesian capital at the wheel of his Volkswagen Polo Supercar, run by Hedströms Motorsport, as he prepares to take his rallycross programme onto the international stage.

The Swede has continued to build his experience in top-level Supercar machinery over recent seasons, with the 2026 campaign seeing him make three appearances in the headline RX1 category of the FIA European Rallycross Championship.

His first European outing of the year came on home soil at Höljes in July, marking his third consecutive Euro RX1 appearance at the iconic Swedish circuit. He subsequently returned to the European Championship field at Lohéac in France before completing his programme at the season-ending double-header in Lousada, Portugal – offering Thorén valuable seat time against one of the deepest RX1 fields in recent years.

Those appearances offered Thorén valuable seat time against one of the deepest RX1 fields in recent years, allowing him to continue developing his experience with the Volkswagen Polo and prepare for his next challenge on the international stage.

As he prepares for his next challenge on the international stage, Thorén’s Polo also brings considerable pedigree to the World Cup grid. Originally built by Marklund Motorsport, the car has previously competed at World and European Championship level and is now operated by Hedströms Motorsport as Thorén continues to build his experience behind the wheel.

The FIA Rallycross World Cup will present an entirely new challenge when Thorén and the rest of the RX1 field arrive in Jakarta in December.

The event will bring international rallycross competition to Southeast Asia for the first time, with drivers battling to become the inaugural FIA Rallycross RX1 World Cup winner. It will also feature a distinctive sporting format, with the introduction of Superpole, two mandatory Joker Laps and an eight-car Semi-Finals and Final.

Filip Thorén said: “I’m really looking forward to racing in Jakarta and being part of the first FIA Rallycross World Cup. It will be a completely new experience for me and a new track for everyone, which should make it really interesting.

“I’ve had some good opportunities to compete in Euro RX1 this year and gain more experience with the car, so hopefully we can take what we have learned into the World Cup. I’m excited to get to Indonesia and see what we can do.”

The first-ever FIA Rallycross World Cup represents a new chapter for the discipline, bringing together established names and experienced competitors as rallycross expands into Southeast Asia for the first time.

For Thorén, Jakarta will offer the opportunity to build on his European appearances and take on a new international challenge as part of the battle for the FIA Rallycross RX1 World Cup crown.
